Committee Approves 2008/09 Wallowa School Budget - Interim K-6 Principal/Superintendent Hired

During last night's Wallowa School District formal budget meeting it became very apparent that is has become increasingly difficult for the district to improve its financial situation in a time of continued declining enrollment. Nevertheless, Ed Jensen from ESD, presented the budget committee members a modified budget proposal that will retain most of the initially proposed cuts by former Superintendent Thielman in the educational department.

ENTERPRISE, Ore -- Fire Captain Ron Neil accepted the $6,066 award in Biggs Junction on Wednesday April 30, 2008. Earlier this year, the Enterprise Volunteer Fire department received federal excess property  wildlands fire engine from the Oregon Department of Forestry, and submitted a grant request to the Neil R. Wyden calls on the Full Senate and House to "get the job done."
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In a continued effort to provide lasting relief for the nation's rural schools and communities, U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) announced today that $400 million is included in the Senate's Iraq supplemental spending bill for the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self Determination Act, commonly known as the "county payments" law.

Stamp Prices To Increase Before Voting Deadline. Cost to mail in ballots will increase by a penny on May 12
SALEM, Ore -- Beginning on May 12, the cost of a First Class postage stamp will increase from 41 cents to 42 cents. The cost increase comes after ballots for Oregon's primary have been mailed out, but eight days before the ballots are due.

Lee Scott Memorial Plowing Bee Takes Place Once Again In Grand Setting at the Water's Ranch

PlowingBeeXS JOSEPH, Ore -- 11 Teamsters, 21 head of animals with nine head of horses and 12 head of mules presented the 10th Lee Scott Memorial Plowing Bee at the Waters' Ranch in Joseph last Saturday and Sunday. Participants and spectators enjoyed two days of glorious weather amongst family, friends and a splendid barbecue sponsored by the Liberty Grange to see how plowing was done in the “good old times."
